Well true to my word I tried a home based piano tutorial.
I must confess I had a negative attitude to this type of learning before I even kicked off, so that probably did not help.
I began by tracking local piano tutors down and via the press, the internet and word of mouth. I chose a guy who I had heard good things about so I was a little more hopeful after speaking to people.
The Reality of the Home Based Piano Tutorial
The tutor was pleasant and obviously knew his stuff. But it just did not work for me.
First off I actually don’t like playing the piano in front of people yet… because i suck, big time. I guess i find it embarrassing. Also these tutors want to teach you in a very old school way.
Maybe I’m some kinda a brat but what I want is something a little more flexable, something that will allow me to work at my own pace.
I also don’t want to learn tunes my mom would love, I want to learn something in the pop realm. I think by learning something more pop based it will motivate me to keep learning. Now I’m not suggesting I knock out a version of Alicia Keys New York – although it would be cool – I just want something with a bit of a vibe. It could be Elvis even, I really don’t care.
So I guess what I’m saying is learning piano with home based piano tutorials is just not for me.
I guess Mr Higgins may be pissed – he is the tutor – but I’m gonna try some more home based piano tutorial books.
With a bit more determination I’m sure I can tame this black and white beast!
As laways I’ll let you know how i get on and if I come across any cool resources I will let you know.
